New Year, New Change

Trigger Warning – death of a pet

I had plans for the start of 2026.

Because of personal things going on in my life, I wasn’t posting much here on the blog.  I had plans to change that for 2026  I have been busy doing research about how to run ads, social media, and getting into indie bookstores.   I’ve been crunched for time between the day job, helping raising my niece, and cowriting a new paranormal romance series with my best friend. This is all while the country is turning into a dumpster fire around us. So in December I started scrambling and scheduling for a good start to 2026.

Then on the evening of December 30th, my little kitty girl Popsicle died unexpectedly, throwing things into a tailspin.

We’re not absolutely certain why, but the ER vet said she could feel fluid around her heart.  We know she had a littermate who died from a heart issue as a kitten, but she had no signs of one at her last checkup.   Needless to say, Mom and I are in shock.  Julius and Sherbert are wandering around the house, looking for their sister.

So my plans are changing and I take time to mourn and regroup.  I’ve lost a companion I’ve had for eleven years, the runt of the litter who began to thrive the moment she climbed into my lap and nipped my chin eleven years ago. I’ll recover.  It will take time.  Part of her will always be with me.

While it’s not a time of celebration for me, I do want to wish all my readers a Happy New Year.  May it be full of blessings and bounty for you and yours.

  1. Sheryl: 2025 was just not a kind year. I am so sorry for your loss, Mac passed in May and I sunk for months. Just pulled out of funk and youngest son Ken aged 57 died in hospital on December 28th. I got into the city on Christmas Day and visited him, stayed overnight in hotel and went back on boxing day. He was asleep when I left that day at 3:30 and gone 9:40 am 28th…nothing feels normal. One foot in front of the other, keep mind and hands busy, don’t wallow…that rabbit hole is deep.
